Identity Crisis

For most of my life I fought for the need to be seen, and validated. I had deep-seated feelings of inadequacy, which were rooted in my childhood. I was the less fortunate child—flying under the radar, barely seen, unwanted, unloved, a mistake. I spent hours in the gym each day in my early twenties and tried countless diets. I tried to find my identity and worth in the scale and pant size, only to fall short. Fast forward to motherhood, and I wanted to be the Pinterest mom, sending my kids to school with nothing but the best, well-thought-out school projects. I felt the need to prove myself to everyone I encountered.

I had allowed false labels to keep me in bondage for most of my life. Which left me feeling never enough. I could tell you the scriptures and deep down I knew the truth, but somehow it couldn’t get from my head to my heart.

This is where most of the world is today. Especially GEN-Z. There is an identity crisis happening. And I believe many of the problems our children are facing stem from this one thing. The world is quick to label who they think we are, and if we hear it long enough… we will begin to believe it. And once we believe it, we will begin to live it.

The enemy will take every opportunity to get in an open door and take up residence.

So how can we win this identity crisis? What do we do when we “know” the truth, yet we still can’t seem to get breakthrough? How do we walk our children in freedom and help them walk in their identity?

Think of it like this, anything that does not line up with the truth of God’s word is like a heavy coat that has been placed on you. The good news is, all we have to do is take the coat off. You don’t have to keep wearing the heaviness, the lies, and the labels that have been placed on you. Jesus wants to clothe you with His truth about who He says you are. And same goes for your children. When you see them believing lies about who they are, you have the power to speak truth back into their lives and remind them of who they are.

We do not have to be a victim of the identity crisis of the world. Anything that does not line up with the Word is not yours to carry. Let’s fight relentlessly to remove anything keeping us from living in the fullness of freedom. Are you in?
